Important Information for Families of MWISD Bus Riders: No Card/No Ride Rule

Posted Date: 08/20/26 (12:00 PM)

Beginning Monday, August 24, all students will be required to scan their transportation card when entering and exiting the bus each morning and afternoon.  If a student does not have a card, the student will not be allowed to ride until a replacement card can be obtained through the student’s campus, subject to the campus procedures below.

1. Students are responsible for obtaining a replacement card from their campus. Replacement cards cost $1. A student may receive a replacement card before paying the fee; however, another replacement card will not be issued until the outstanding fee has been paid.

2. At Lamar and Houston, campus staff will ensure that every student riding the bus in the afternoon has a card.

3. At Travis, Junior High, and High School, a student who attempts to board a bus without a card will be sent to the office to contact a parent or guardian to arrange transportation home.

Why are we enforcing the No Card/No Ride rule?

The card-scanning system is an important part of MWISD’s commitment to keeping students safe and providing parents with timely transportation information. When students scan as they enter and exit the bus, the district and parents can better account for each student during transportation.  Through the Parent View app, parents can access real-time information about their student’s bus activity. This information can help parents confirm that their child boarded or exited the bus.

The app also allows the Transportation Department to send important notifications, such as alerts when a bus must take a different route because of construction, traffic, an accident, or another unexpected delay.

Many transportation concerns occur when a student boards or exits a bus without scanning, leaving parents without the information the system is designed to provide. Consistent scanning ensures that parents receive accurate information and allows the district to maintain dependable accountability for every student riding an MWISD bus.

Parents and guardians are highly encouraged to download and use the Parent View app. Please contact your child’s campus if your student needs a replacement card or if you need assistance accessing the app.

Thank you for helping us keep every student safe, accounted for, and connected with their family while using MWISD transportation.
