Apple Corps Teacher of the Year MWISD Teacher Recognition Timeline Chart

Every year, MWISD recognizes educators from across the District through the Heart of Excellence Teacher of the Month Award and MWISD Teacher of the Year Apple Corps Awards for teaching excellence. 

Nominees must meet the following requirements:

  • 5 years of teaching experience
  • 3 years of teaching experience in Mineral Wells ISD
  • Must be a teacher or campus instructional specialist
  • *Not eligible: counselors, librarians, nurses, diagnosticians, retired/ rehired teachers

Nominees should:

  • Be considered an exceptional teacher by his/her peers
  • Exhibit specific behaviors that other teachers strive or should strive to emulate
  • Display a professional image and character at all times
  • Consistently go beyond the expectations and requirements of his/her profession
  • Demonstrates that he/she does whatever it takes to ensure student success

Nomination Timeline:

4th Week in August, September, October, November, December & January

Each campus will nominate and honor a distinguished educator as the recipient of the esteemed Heart of Excellence Award, also known as the Teacher of the Month.  

Last Week in February

Staff will vote (digitally) for their Apple Corps TOY from that list of six teachers of the month educators.  The vote will be multiple choice; however, they will need to give three reasons why they voted on that particular staff member.  Remember, counselors, librarians, nurses, diagnosticians, and retired/ rehired teachers are not eligible for Apple Corps Teacher of the Year.  

First Week in March

Campus principals will submit a name to the Communications Director.  Campus selections and reasons why they were chosen will be submitted to the administration at the district office.  

Second Week in April

All five of those teachers will be honored at a reception in the DSC Conference room (6:00 p.m.) and then acknowledged during the board meeting at 7:00 p.m. At that time, they will receive a $100 check, a personalized acrylic award, and a proclamation from the board.  It was decided that the campuses would take turns hosting the reception.  

The Schedule is as Follows:

  • 2024-Houston Elementary
  • 2025-Lamar Elementary
  • 2026-MWHS
  • 2027-MWJH
  • 2028-Travis Elementary 

First Week in May

During the first week in May, the Apple Corps Teacher of the Year will be announced by the district administration. This gives the individual ample time to begin the Texas Teacher of the Year paperwork, ensuring a smooth and timely process.
