Important TEA Update: Adjustments to the 2025-2026 MWISD School Calendar

Posted Date: 12/05/24 (3:31 PM)

Dear Parents,

I want to bring to your attention some recent Texas Education Agency (TEA) changes that will impact our school calendar for the upcoming school year. TEA has updated the waiver rules, which will not allow 4-day schools to qualify for instructional waivers any longer. As a result, we will need to add four additional school days to our calendar for the next academic year. We want to be very clear that MWISD is not seeking changes to our 4-day week; rather, having to comply with TEA mandates.

I am attaching a very short 2-minute video for your convenience that explains the information below. I believe a conversation provides more clarity than black-and-white words.
Please click on this link to view the video:  https://youtu.be/0hceSQxs25g

To ensure that we take your preferences into account, we have attached a very short 2-question survey. The survey will ask for your input on when you would prefer to add these extra days. Your options will include:

- Adding days at the start of the school year, in July, or extending the school year by adding days at the end, in June
- Adding Fridays at the beginning of the year while keeping the start and end dates similar to this year

Your feedback is incredibly valuable as we strive to accommodate the needs of our families while adhering to the new rules. Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we navigate these changes together.
